Sydney 2021 Speaking 4 the Planet

This online competition is free and available to schools in participating local government areas.

Entitled Rewind the clock – reverse ecosystem degradation, this competition invites students to focus on the United Nations’ Decade of Ecosystem Restoration, which aims to “prevent, halt and reverse the degradation of ecosystems on every continent and in every ocean.”

The competition has six categories:

  • Public speaking
  • Visual arts
  • Drama
  • Writing
  • Video
  • Memes/cartoons

Using one of these Arts categories students could consider such elements of ecosystem restoration as:

  • Understanding what ecosystems are
  • Ecosystems in your backyard and schools
  • Ecosystem restoration
  • Relationships amongst personal, social, environmental well-being
  • Actions and leadership at personal through to global levels
  • Imagining healthy ecosystems
  • No time to waste: ecosystems must be restored.
